Our Story: Empower Youth, Black Communities
Over the past decade, our founder has worked as a community organizer, educator, and advocate for youth across the country. He has consistently centred his work on uplifting the voices of those who have historically been silenced by anti-Blackness, colonial violence and repression by relentlessly working to dismantle all forms of violence and hate. All of this work has always been built on the belief that change is the product of many small choices over time.
As a community organizer, he noticed a few things:
There must be opportunities forcommunities to connect with nature and the outdoors.
There must be more conversations surrounding decolonization and Black liberation that do not only center white allyship and experiences.
There must be spaces centred on radical joy.
There must be spaces for Black communities to connect with Indigenous and other racialized communities.
Color In Practice was born out of a desire to address these issues. The decision to focus on youth empowerment is based on a simple idea, when you empower youth, you transform communities for generations to come.
