CORE COLORS
CORE COLORS
To help us remain true to our foundation, our approach is guided by our core colors. They are the underlying values that guide our work, and we how we put Color In Practice.
FOR US, BY US
All systems of oppression are interconnected and deeply ingrained in our society. From racism and sexism to ableism and homophobia, these systems of oppression intersect in complex ways, creating a web of inequality that affects us all. It is not enough to simply recognize these systems of oppression; we must actively resist them in all their forms. This mean challenging systems of oppression wherever we encounter them, whether it be in our own lives, in our communities, or in the wider world, and empowering others to do the same.
RESILIENCE THROUGH JOY
The most effective solutions to the challenges facing our communities come from within. This means Black folks must be the main driving force in projects aimed at improving our communities and holding leadership roles. By providing resources, support, and a platform for Black communities to share their knowledge and expertise, we hope to foster a sense of agency and self-determination that will help our communities thrive.
CONNECTION
Joy is a powerful tool for healing, growth, and community building. Through programming that bring joy to Black communities, we promote resilience and empower people to overcome systemic barriers. We celebrate the resilience and creativity of Black communities by continuing the age-old tradition of cultivating spaces for joy, healing, and growth.
RESISTING ALL FORMS OF OPPRESSION
Inclusivity is essential for creating a world where everyone can thrive. We strive to create spaces and programming that are welcoming and accessible to all Black folks, regardless of their background or identity. Inclusivity is not just a value we hold, but an ongoing practice that requires continuous effort and self-reflection. We are committed to holding ourselves accountable to our values, and continually seeking out ways to improve our inclusivity in our programming, partnerships, and internal culture.
INCLUSIVITY
Connection is at the heart of what we do at Color In Practice. We believe that building strong relationships between Black communities is essential for creating a more just and equitable world. We strive to foster deep connections that transcend artificial borders and unite us in our common humanity.
ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
Environmental justice is a critical component of creating an equitable and just world. We strive to bring sustainable practice to the forefront of our collective consciousness. However, Black folks have historically been excluded from environmentalism and conservation narratives, despite often being the most impacted by environmental issues. Therefore, we are committed to making environmental action accessible and relevant to our communities, and prioritizing the perspectives and knowledge of Indigenous communities in our work.
